If you can get past the smell, a premium-grade durian is like the richest sweetest custard you'll ever taste. My dad hated the smell for years but gallantly cut them open every season for my sister and me - some we developed a love for that fruit. After several years of holding back his gag reflex, he grew to like it. So it IS possible to develop a taste for this 'king of fruits'. As for me and a few Brit gal-friends - we love it!!

And don't just eat ANY durian - your first intro has to be with the D24 or Sultan durians or better... sheer bliss, I promise you.

My Asian market carries the fruit when it's in Season (which I think is fall here in Los Angeles) Naturally I had to try it. I can't say I loved the fruit, but for it truly awful smell it didn't really taste bad. Kind of sickly sweet with a rotten garlic aftertaste. Now I want to try these cookies. Yeah, I'll warn you though, at first chew, it sucks. It's kind of hard until you chew it for a few seconds. And I think I misspelled it. I think it's Fuwarinka. Get the citrus. Not rose.

Oh goodness. I can't believe you tried that! Fragrant, odorous, and having a big nose do this fruit no justice. My "aunt" Kai brought some back from Thailand and it tasted horrible! It has the consistency of cream cheese or something and smelled like rotten eggs and B.O. mixed together. Egggghhhhh. It was disgusting. And you're right. That flavor and smell stay with you allllll day. I'm sorry that you had to learn the painful way like me! You should go back to said Asian market and buys lots of Pocky to help you recover, hahaha! Or that yummy Furwarinka gum that makes your breath AND body smell like citrus! ^_^

i actually see Durian all the time in my neck of the woods, in Dallas, Texas! I find them at the Asian supermarkets, Hong Kong Market, etc..quite often if not all the time!
I have never tried them though, was planning on it though so thanks for the warning!

I googled and found the above link...I have never heard of those cookies and being Asian and born in the u.s. I do not and will never like any sweets that Asians concoct... Their version of desserts and sweets are totally different and alien... In other words they suck..lol...

I HATE THE SMELL OF DURIAN!! MY BF ATE A WHOLE ONE ON THE WEEKEND AND IT STUNK OUT THE ENTIRE FRIDGE! I CAN SMELL DURIAN A MILE A WAY. IT SMELLS SO STRONG!! I remember my friend forced me to eat these. I didn't want to disapoint her so I put 2 in my mouth one at a time and slightly chewed making me gag. = I went to the "toilet" and threw it up lol. the biscuits and the ice cream the smell isn't that strong.

Asians love them! it has a nice creamy texture like cheese.......haha. It is banned on Singapore railway stations lol

Do you know that Andrew Zimmern, the travel channel food critic, who thinks snakes, anything that moves as delicacies COULD NOT Stomach only one thing - Durian. That is like the worst stinking fruit on earth..EVER.

Ah, Durian is a fruit, then? I didn't know that and thank you, for I will be going to bed a little less silly, this evening. Once, at the chinese restaurant, we wanted to try a dessert with Durian and the waiter asked: 'Do you like the taste of rotten eggs?' 'Why, no!' we said, horrified. 'Then choose another dessert!' the waiter recommended.
