Banana pudding has to be my all time favorite Southern dessert. My mom's is the best! Nilla Wafers...bananas...from scratch pudding...topped with real meringue, hot out of the oven it can't be beat. Well it's not my mom's, but this recipe is still REALLY GOOD! And it's no bake and so simple...so simple this would be a great recipe to let the kids help out with.
Now I usually don't like desserts with instant pudding in them, but when you mix the pudding with sweetened condensed milk, cream cheese, and cool whip...It doesn't taste so instant.
No Bake Banana Pudding
1- 11 oz box vanilla wafers (you will not use the entire box)
6 bananas, sliced
2 cups milk
1- 5.1 oz instant vanilla pudding
1- 8 oz package cream cheese
1- 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
1- 12 oz container frozen whipped topping, thawed
Line the bottom of a 13x9x2-inch dish with vanilla wafers; top with the sliced bananas. In a bowl combine the milk and vanilla pudding mix; mix with a hand mixer. In another bowl mix together the cream cheese and sweetened condensed milk. Fold the whipped topping into the cream cheese mixture; add to the pudding mixture and stir until well blended. Pour the pudding mixture over the bananas and top with vanilla wafers. Refrigerate until chilled. This tastes and looks best the day it is made.
Changing Subjects...on Tuesday evening, I'll be speaking with the Tuscaloosa Christian Writers Club...Talking about blogging, the basics of it...how to get started...that kind of stuff. And I know we all have had different experiences and I'd like to share more than just my own with them...Your's too! So what advice would you give to someone thinking of starting a blog or to a new blogger. Maybe things you would do different...why you keep doing it? Share whatever...Just leave it as a comment. I'll share all the comments with them. And if you are in Tuscaloosa and want to attend, just send me an email.
That looks wonderful--I could live with the instant pudding based on how that turned out. Advice: be supportive of other new bloggers. Visit other blogs. Don't get discouraged.
ReplyDeleteGreat advice...for new and old bloggers.
DeleteNice pudding!! Advice, hmm, don't be so hung up on the folower count and try to think and make recipes outside of your comfort zone. Thers some wacky combinations of flavors out there :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck..
Yeah people do get hung up on the number game...great advice!
DeleteNice pudding and nice of you to share some advice with new bloggers.
ReplyDeleteThis look absolutely delicious and tempting! my advise to other new bloggers is do visit other blog oftenly and let other bloggers know you..
ReplyDeleteGreat advise Sonia...Blogging really is about community/
DeleteUmmm, banana pudding - how very "back in the day." New bloggers - visit other blogs and learn aspects you like. Post comment on them and ask the writer to pay yours a visit.
ReplyDeleteStephen...leaving a comment is the best way to get someone to visit your blog.
DeleteI think you made enough of that pudding for me.....right? I started with encouragement from another blogger. The main thing is ...write what you know. Be honest, be yourself and visit other blogs. I have lots of visitors but not many comments. I visit 30+ blogs a day and try to leave a comment at least once a week. It can be time consuming, but I feel important. That is how to get to know each other. Blogger friendship is the best. I also think of my blog as a journal for my children and grandchildren since we don't live near to them. I have connected with grade school classmates through Facebook and my blog. It is the best retirement job you could have. Bo, enjoy your talk. You will do great. Susan
ReplyDeleteThanks Susan...Great advice...I think commenting is nearly as important actually writing your own posts.
DeleteMmmmm I bet that is good, I love bananas. Diane
ReplyDeleteHi Bo! That looks terrific! I love pudding desserts - there's something old-fashioned and wonderful about them (be it box or scratch). As for blogging advice - I would say to be true to yourself and never hesitate to ask for help from a fellow blogger. We're a great group! Best of luck on your speech - you'll be great!
ReplyDeleteAnn...Being true to yourself is so important...and it does seem that bloggers are an unusually nice group of people:D
DeleteI chatted on and on before, but one thing I think is very important is finding a title. I thought of several and then googled them to see if they existed already. You need something unique that people will remember and is not that similar to others. Be creative. Susan
ReplyDeleteSuasn...I totally agree! Your title becomes your "brand". I think you have a great title...I just can't spell scnitzel...lol
DeleteLots of good ideas for bloggers! I have found that everyone blogs for a different reason. It is a great way to keep up with family, to journal your life, or to store your recipes.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of recipes... Love yours!
Thanks Sandi.
DeleteHmmm...I am telling my sister about this Bo. Looks good. She used to make your mom's, which really was ours LOL but she complains it takes too much energy to stir it while the pudding sets up! and the meringue...the lovely browned top!
ReplyDeleteAdvice- Do what you want, and do it to create. Don't let others tell you what is and what should be. Follow your own inspiration...
Great advice! I think that is what keeps it interesting for me...is we are all so different.
DeleteGreat banana pudding, Bo! It looks delicious and sounds nice and easy. Blogger tips: Have a design/layout you can live with and enjoy posting on whenever, the header is what you see first. No music. It's too distracting when trying to read the post---at least it is for me. And visit other blogs, leave comments, that's probably the most important thing! Have fun with the writers club!
ReplyDeleteBo: This is exactly how I like my banana pudding--well, I haven't tried it with sweetened condensed me but how delicious that sounds!
ReplyDeleteI started my blog as a thought to put down my daily doings--sort of a diary. One day, someone commented. Another day, another comment. I clicked and visited those commenters. I liked them. I'd say, be yourself. Talk about what your interests are. Listen to what your commenters are saying. I've now met, face-to-face, five blogging friends around the country. They were exactly as they are on their blogs and I felt a connection before we met and was not disappointed.
Good wishes for your meeting tomorrow.
Best,
Bonnie
I love this kids friendly recipe. I would love to make this pudding with my son this weekend :D
ReplyDeleteI LOVE banana pudding.. it's number three in the top 5, actually! Love this recipe.
ReplyDeleteAs for advice... Do it for you and no one else!
Hi! Love banana pudding but never make it! Maybe because the bananas are always gone when I think of it!
ReplyDeleteMy advice would be to know why you want to blog and what you want in return. Me, I started blogging because I love to cook, wanted to be challenged with something besides my day job and wanted to share the things in my world.
he he we were on the same track like my banana's and custard this week, my advice to new bloggers is have fun and be yourself
ReplyDeleteYum, this banana pudding looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteAdvice - Write from your heart, I love going to a blog and reading a little history about themselves or what they are writing about.
Hi Bo! The Banana Pudding looks amazing, no bake is perfect!
ReplyDeleteAdvice for new bloggers... I guess to echo what everyone else is saying, write what you know and be true to yourself. As long as you keep it fun, your blog will be fun to read. If it becomes "work" then will come through in your writing. Enjoy!
I haven't had banana pudding in years! It looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteLove nanner pudding as my younger brother use to call it years ago. Have not had one with meringue, so of course that must be tried!
ReplyDeleteAhh blogging, although it has been slow to gain followers, I had to realize my blog did in fact have limited appeal, and that is OK. So my advise would be to stay true to yourself and try hard not to think of blogging as a popularity contest because it is so easy to think that way. We all want to be successful and even be recognized but I learned that if I don't do this just for myself, I have failed me and what I have to offer does not have value. I enjoy what I offer and it is offered with honesty and truth, so in that respect alone I have a decent measure of success. Oh and by the way, thanks for your visits!
Bo, this is incredible! You brought me right back to childhood with those oh so yummy nilla waffers!
ReplyDeleteThis is a delicious reminder that it has been ages since I have indulged in banana pudding. It is so tempting in your pictures-yum!
ReplyDeleteBlogging does have its ups and downs, however the best thing about it is the friends you acquire in the journey. I do it as a hobby so there is no pressure to make money at it. Have a great day Bo and thanks for stopping by and commenting on my blog!
Yum -- this is similar to a Paula Deen recipe except she uses Chessmen shortbread cookies instead of Nilla Wafers. They're a nice change from the traditional version.
ReplyDeleteHow did the talk go on Tuesday?
Bo, now this is a classic dish, I can remember my mom making something like this!
ReplyDeleteAs for new bloggers, (sorry I'm late)of course everyone has their own reason for blogging so stay true to yourself and don't stress out about what other's are doing or not doing. There are also many helpful sites and forums out there for what type of blogging you want to do. Hope your speech went well.
YUM! My hubby would love this! And so much easier than a banana cream pie :)
ReplyDeleteAdvice to new bloggers would be to find a niche...baking, homecooking, vegan, etc. and then just be yourself. What a nice gig for you!
Dear Bo, this is indeed a simple but delicious treat that is sure to please!! Blessings for a beautiful weekend, your friend, Catherine
ReplyDeleteBanana Pudding is one of my husband's favorite desserts and he would love this version of it!
ReplyDeleteOops, it's Tuesday night, I'm too late. Ummm my advice is to comment promptly on other peoples blogs, before they have deadlines, ha ha.
ReplyDeleteThis pudding looks so luscious and creamy!
