Chocolate Frosty Ice Cream


Earlier this week my new ice cream freezer was delivered.  Now I already had a ice cream freezer, but I wanted an old fashioned one that you fill the bucket with ice and rock salt.  I couldn't hardly wait to try out my new freezer.  I was tempted to skip work and just make ice cream all day, but I figured that might not be good on my wallet.  So I had to wait until the weekend.


Today I finally found some time to make a batch of ice cream.  I first had this ice cream at a church ice cream social.  The lady who made it shared the recipe with me.  It really is the simplest ice cream I have ever made and it tastes remarkably like a Wendy's Frosty.


Chocolate Frosty Ice Cream

1 gallon chocolate milk
16 oz Cool Whip
14 oz can sweetened condensed milk

Mix all the ingredients in a large bowl.  Then freeze the mixture in a ice cream freezer according to the manufacturers instructions. 


This recipe fills my 1.5 gallon ice cream freezer.  If you have a smaller ice cream freezer you may have to freeze it in two batches.

  16. My parents used to do that so much in the summer when I was a kid. This is a great recipe that I will be trying soon with the newer version of ice cream makers but I should be getting the one like you have. Way to go, Bo!

  17. Oh my God Bo, does that ever look good! I didn't know you wanted one of these. My mother had two of this kind of ice cream freezer and was looking for new homes for them! I also just saw a recipe for lavender and cardamon flavored ice creams. Hmmmmmm, sound sort of good, but just not sure. How can you top chocolate?

I will be trying this soon... well, after we clear out the 3 different kinds of homemade ice cream that are now in our freezer :) And I love my old fashioned ice cream maker, (looks just like yours) it somehow makes me feel better about eating all that ice cream!   22. It just wouldn't be summer without homemade ice cream. I really love my old fashioned ice cream maker too. Really loving the looks of your frosty. What an amazing recipe! You certainly can't go wrong with an ice cream recipe (or any recipe for that matter) containing condensed milk!

  30. Bo, you are going to laugh, but I bought an old crank machine at a flea market for one dollar, lol, hubby gets this look when I drag that out at gatherins, because I sit on it, and he cranks- well gets cranky that is, lol

  31. That really brings back memories! My grandparents had an old-fashioned ice cream maker - not electric but hand crank. All the kids took turns turning - it was such a chore especially at the end, but well worth the taste! Your ice cream looks delicious!

  38. That sure does look like a Wendy's frosty. I'd had my heart set on trying a cherry, chocolate chip ice cream-Until I saw THIS! Going to try this instead now.
