Blackberry Bourbon Sour

Most summer cocktails are...well very girlie.  There is just something wrong about a man drinking a pink drink with a paper umbrella.  Here is a drink that no man will be embarrassed to hold and that everyone at your summer cookout will love.

Blackberry Bourbon Sour

6 oz bourbon
4 tbs fresh lemon juice
4 tsp seedless blackberry preserves
2 tsp powdered sugar
4 or 5 ice cubes
fresh blackberries, for garnish

In a cocktail shaker combine all of the ingredients except for the fresh blackberries and shake vigorously.  Strain and pour into 2 glasses filled with crushed ice.

Note:  I used Bonne Maman blackberry preserves.  They are already very liquid and I left them out in the sun for a few minutes.  If you use a firmer preserve you may need to melt the preserves first.

Don't you think this is a more manly drink than a Pineapple Sherberita or a Raspberry Sorbet-tini?

  2. I so would love this! I just don't drink any more. Occasionally wine but nothing as yummy as this. It certainly brings back the memories though...

    Debbi,

  4. This sounds wildly good, Bo. It's a bit sweeter than most of the drinks I've tried, but I'm always open to new flavors. I was so delighted that you came to visit my blog today. I hope you stop by regularly. Blessings...Mary

  15. This looks great Bo! Love blackberries and Maker's Mark is the best. I grew up in Louisville and it was definitely there everywhere. Have you been to the Maker's Mark Distillery? Check out my post for it on Dec. 31st if you get a minute. It's really an interesting place with beautiful grounds and buildings also. This is a good recipe to try! Thanks!

  16. Bo, what a lovely cocktail and certainly not girlie. I don't care for girlie drinks myself and I'm a girl, although you couldn't tell by my name. No paper unbrellas for me.

Hope you have a great 4th of July and enjoy the fireworks, which I know you will (wink wink).

  17. Who would've thought to use preserves for making cocktails. Are you a bartender by trade? If not, you could certainly make a killing with all of the drinks you've concocted. This one sounds magnificent. Such a great idea to use preserves to flavor drinks with. My mind is racing now with thoughts of recipes.
    Thanks.

  19. As a bourbon-loving girl this sounds awesome to me. We always make blackberry mint juleps for the derby but never thought about using preserves.. that's just brilliant. Our arms got so damn tired from muddling all those berries last year! I'm seriously gonna make this tonight-thanks

  22. Nice summer drink Bo! I enjoy bourbon, but not my husband. I made the mint julep for my blog when he was out of town because of that. Then he said he wanted to try it. Maybe this one would change his mind :)

Have fun shooting off all those fireworks!
