Morgan Creek Vineyard Wine Tasting

This past week has been pretty rough for me.  I've been waking up at 4:30 in the morning and some days not getting off work until 7 o'clock in the evening.  So I'm pretty exhausted.  It felt like the weekend would never get here.  This weekend I needed some real relaxation.  So today we drove down to the Morgan Creek Vineyard in Harpersville.  It's only about a thirty minute drive from Birmingham.  The Morgan Creek Vineyard actually makes some of my favorite wines, so I was pretty excited to see where it all happens.

The vineyard is very pretty and very hot.  The temperature was in the nineties today, so the best place to be was inside tasting the wines.  They make twelve varieties.  Of course I tasted all of them.  Cheers!

  7. I love to go wine tasting. I'm glad you got a chance to chill. I wish we had a vineyard that close. The wineries here in Florida don't usually grow their own grapes. I think the muscadine grape is the only one. There is one that make blueberry wine.

They let you taste all twelve? :D

  15. Oh I do not miss hours like that! I used to get off at 11:30 after an all day double shift and I was a Zombie until 4 AM, then start all over again! Poor Bo, you deserve to be handed a whole bottle to yourself! Nice walk through the vineyard photos!

  17. Sounds like a really nice time. I have never been to a vineyard but would love to sometime. I would love to try different wines side by side and see how they differ. Hope your week this week is a lot easier:)

  18. Bunny,
Actually I found a few new faves...All muscadine...Carlos a very sweet almost dessert wine...tasted almost like fresh muscadine juice...It was as easy to drink as sweet tea...Red Mountain Red a semi sweet wine...I think sweeter wines are nice to drink in hot weather...and another called Noble a dry red. They are in all the supermarkets here and I'm sure you can find them at Whole Foods in ATL.

    Chef E,
Thanks! Hours like that will kill you.

    Andy,
    It was!

    Raina,
    Thanks!

  30. I am partial to sweet wines..i love dipping biscotti in them. The vineyard looks very nice.I don't see too many grapes..Is it off-season? Sorry I would make a very poor farmer. I don't know when it is grape season.
Last year I went to a Vineyard in San Gimignano, Italy. It was my first time to actually see a grape-vine and it was an exciting experience for me. Good that you have a vineyard at a stones throw away..hmm, almost..

  31. Just,
    I agree.

    Cool Lassi(e),
Mee too, especially in the hot weather. There are lots of muscadines on the vines, but they are only very tiny green knots. They will not be harvested till around september. I'm sure the vineyard you saw in Italy is much more impressive than this one.
