Three Cheese Baked Ziti

Lately my schedule has left me with little time to cook. If it wasn't for dishes like this one that can be prepared the night before and just popped in the oven, dinner would probably be a frozen pizza or something from a drive-thru. Of course this is much better than a frozen pizza. This dish really is a fake out , no one will ever know it is made from a jar of Alfredo pasta sauce. It makes a great vegetarian entree, but I'm a big meat eater so I served it as a side dish with grilled chicken.

Three Cheese Baked Ziti

1 lb package ziti pasta
15 oz jar Alfredo sauce
15 oz ricotta cheese
1 egg
1 & 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
2 cups grated mozzarella cheese
2 tbs fresh parsley, chopped
1/2 tsp black pepper, freshly ground

In  a bowl combine the ricotta, egg, parmesan, parsley, and black pepper.  Mix well.  Meanwhile cook the pasta about one minute less than than the package recommends.  Then drain and toss the pasta in the Alfredo sauce.

In a buttered baking dish place half the pasta.  Then spread an even layer of the ricotta mixture over the pasta.  Top with the remaining pasta.  Then scatter the mozzarella cheese over the top and bake in a 350 degree oven for 50 minutes.

must be delicious, but can we replace parsley somehow (with basil?)? I would have to eat the whole baking dish because only I like parsley in my house..:/

  25. You had me at three cheese. Then the addition of alfredo sauce. That put it right over the top for me. Michael agrees though that I would have to add some meat into it or on the side for him. I'd be satiated enough with all that cheese.
    Thanks.

  33. I used store bought sauce too! I don't make this kinda recipes often so it's best to buy the sauce. Saving you some times for some other things... like desserts! ^_^ Hope you're having a wonderful day.

  43. Fake out recipes are the best kind because they are always there to make, if you are not in the mood to cook. That is me, today and your recipe is similar to mine - difference is mainly in the amount of Parmesan. I am going to give it a try, with your recipe, hopefully for dinner.

  44. I just wrote a comment and got a message, it could not be sent, so I will try again.

I was saying how great fake out dinners can be and that our recipes are similar, other than that you use more Parmesan.

I am goimg to give this a try for dinner.
